Have you heard of the good news?

Romans 10:11-15 (NASB)

11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How then are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? 15 But how are they to preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”

Reflect:

There was once a time in the past when people didn’t have the luxury of instant messaging, video calls, and Zoom conferences; it was all about sending letters. Post offices were one of the busiest places, and the mere sight of a postman made people sprint from their seats to the entrance of their doors.

Because that’s what good news brings to us—and the mere sight of someone bringing good news already gives fresh hope.

What a beautiful thing we have all received as sons and daughters of God—the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. How wonderful it is to be able to call on His name and be saved. To run to Him and be assured that we will find comfort and shelter, and no longer be put to shame.

This is the promise of the Lord’s salvation. It’s good news waiting to be heard. It’s also good news that we are not only willing to share, but are called upon to proclaim. For it is in the very heart of the Father for His sons and daughters to hear of this news and receive the precious gift of salvation.

Verses 14-15 of Romans 10 gives us believers both a strong rebuke and a call for compassion to reach out to the lost. 14 How then are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? 15 But how are they to preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”

Respond:

Dear friend, right now let us take some time to be reminded of the call in Romans 10—how can the lost call on His name if they don’t believe? How can they believe a message that was never sent in the first place? How can they find out about the good news if the ones who bear it choose to stay silent?

How can people hear about the Lord from us today?

Let us encourage one another in sharing the good news.
