Matthew 28:16-20 (NASB)
But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated to them. And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some [f]were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to [h]follow all that I commanded you, and behold, I am with you [i]always, to the end of the age.”
Reflect:
Before His crucifixion, Jesus promised His disciples that He will go before them to Galilee (Matthew 26:32). So after He had risen and appeared to them on different occasions (Mark 16:9-14), Jesus met His disciples again in Galilee. “And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him.” (Matthew 28:17)
The disciples’ offering of worship was followed by the great commissioning when Jesus told them to go and make disciples of all nations. But what does it mean to make disciples? How do we make disciples? How can we say that we are Christ’s disciples?
A disciple is a follower. We are Christ’s disciples when we follow Christ’s teaching. To make disciples is to teach people to obey and follow Christ.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
The great commission to go and make disciples is part of God’s redemption plan. Jesus urged His disciples to continue what He started. And He commissioned them with a promise that He will be with them until the end of time.
Respond:
Where are you right now? What is God asking you to do? Will you be His disciple? Will you respond to Him in obedience and worship? Will you share about His love?
Like Jesus’ disciples, let us build our confidence in the resurrected Christ. “Let us set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all mankind” (1 Timothy 4:10) and make disciples of all nations.
Growing up in Sunday School is the reason why Krisha decided to become a teacher. She has been teaching in Sunday School since she was 12 and six years ago, God allowed her to teach in a Christian school in Taguig. Her heart goes out for the young generation, that their ways will be made pure by the Word of God (Psalm 119:9), just as God has preserved her through His Word.
