“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalms 4:8

Just as we close our eyes in the conclusion of our day, this verse concluded chapter four of the book of Psalms. David laid down his worries and opened up before the Lord. It was as if his father was asking him how his day went, and he just poured out what was in his heart. His prayers are like that of a crying child that needed his father’s embrace to calm him down and lull him to sleep.

With the recent COVID-19 situation, I struggled to maintain a positive outlook. I tried to hide my anxiety and fear of the unknown. I was anxious about every reported infected case and mortality rate, fearful of what is going to happen next in our country. I tried to distract myself by getting busy during the daytime. My prayers for healing were uttered every night, but  I still felt restless. It was when I became honest to the Lord about what I’m feeling that I regained peace.

In this fast-paced world, we somehow crave rest from all our adversaries. Psalm 4:8 reminded us that even in the midst of my anxiety, it is the Lord who will give me peace. At the end of the day, it is Him who gives me the strength that I will need for tomorrow’s dealings. That I will close my eyes in peace, for it is the Lord who sustains my breath. He who gives is He who will take. It is in His hands that my victory over my adversaries will be.

I pray that His peace will also overwhelm you today. May you find strength in His promises. May you feel safe in His love and faithfulness. He is victorious!
