Psalm 119:9-11, 13-14 (NASB)
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
10 With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11 I have treasured Your word in my heart,
So that I may not sin against You....
13 With my lips I have told of
All the ordinances of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
Reflect:
Every teacher dreams of a better future, always thinking of the next generation as he or she teaches. A teacher’s heart goes for the younger generation always wanting to cultivate one’s mind and pass on what they know.
But, what is the best lesson that we can leave to the next generation? How can we preserve them from the impurities brought about by this fallen world?
The psalmist wrote, “a young man can only keep his way pure by guarding it according to the Word of the Lord.” If we want to live a life of moral purity, we have to read and follow the Word of the Lord.
Jesus said, “If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love.” (John 15:10) And if we remain in His love, we will bear the fruit of the Spirit that is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22)
Indeed, the greatest teaching comes from the mouth of the Lord, expressed by His love. The best lesson can be found in God’s Word. Like the psalmist, let us treasure His Word in our hearts and delight in it as much as in all riches.
Respond:
Do you want to live a life of moral purity? Let us keep God’s Word. Do you want the next generation to live in righteousness? Let us teach God’s Word.
The best lesson gives wisdom and true wisdom comes from God alone. Let us draw near to Him through His Word.
Growing up in Sunday School is the reason why Krisha decided to become a teacher. She has been teaching in Sunday School since she was 12 and six years ago, God allowed her to teach in a Christian school in Taguig. Her heart goes out for the young generation, that their ways will be made pure by the Word of God (Psalm 119:9), just as God has preserved her through His Word.
